Amref Health Africa is an international health development non-governmental organization with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. Amref Health Africa has over 65 years
experience in health development. In 1957, three surgeons founded the Flying Doctors Service of East Africa, laying the foundation for what is now one of the continent's leading
health development organization. Today, Amref Health Africa has offices in 10 African countries – Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Training and consulting support are provided to an additional 25 African countries. Amref Health Africa has 11 fundraising offices in Europe and North America. With a focus on women and young people, Amref manages a full range of medical and public health programmes tackling the most critical health challenges facing the continent – including strengthening community health systems, managing public health emergencies and service delivery in conflict environments, addressing communicable, non-communicable and neglected tropical diseases, maternal and childcare, as well as water, sanitation, and health needs arising from climate change and rapid urbanization. Around the world, Amref is rooted in the contexts where we operate and proudly uphold our primary accountability to communities by transforming health systems to prioritize and strengthen primary healthcare (PHC) as the foundation for universal health coverage (UHC) in Africa.
